A video of shoppers tumbling down an escalator like a pack of dominoes in a shopping mall believed to be in the Klang Valley has gone viral, triggering shocked reactions from netizens.
Based on the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the shopping complex, it shows the group of shoppers, including a woman carrying a toddler, falling down.
This happened after the escalator heading upwards suddenly reversed its direction, sending the 20 people using it to fall on top each other.
The two-minute video was posted by Facebook group Video Viral and has received more than 62,000 views, 700 likes and 1,600 shares after it was posted late yesterday.
It is not known when or where the video was taken or whether any of the shoppers suffered serious injuries in the incident.
However, shocked netizens expressed their disbelief over the incident. Some even urged the shoppers involved to sue the management of the shopping mall for not maintaining the escalator properly.
Some netizens claimed overloading was the reason for the incident, causing the escalator step chain to snap.
“Rantai escalator tu putus, mohon pihak tecnicion buat servis sepenuhnye pd premis yg ade escalator” (“The escalator step chain snapped. Technicians should have serviced each escalator in the premises”), commented Facebook user Rony Faudzi.
Another Facebook user, Faiz Craig Arzhari, also said it happened due to weight overload on the escalator.
